The context
Six months into building Pillars as an events brand, the question was how to extend its presence beyond the events themselves. The hospitality industry has very little long-form editorial content built for people who work in it rather than consume it. Most trade content is operational. Most lifestyle content is for guests, not professionals.
The challenge
To create something worth reading, not a brand newsletter dressed up as editorial, but a publication with a genuine point of view. And to make it feel like it belonged to the Pillars world: considered, well-designed, built for people who care about the industry.
The strategy
A broadsheet format, not a digital newsletter. The physical object was a deliberate positioning choice: tangible, designed, something people would keep. The editorial direction: industry insight, cultural observation, operational perspective and people worth knowing about. Four hundred copies, distributed to industry contacts, event guests and press.
The outcome
The newspaper positioned Pillars as a platform for thought leadership, not just an events series. It extended the brand's credibility beyond the people who had attended an event and into the wider industry.
What this proves
This case study proves editorial thinking, print production, brand extension strategy and the ability to create a standalone media product from a zero base.
