The context
Pillars began as a logo brief. The actual brief was narrow: create a visual mark for a new platform connecting professionals across the hospitality and experience industries. When I looked at what existed underneath that brief, no strategy, no positioning, no brand, no digital presence, no event architecture, the scope changed significantly.

The challenge
The hospitality networking space is crowded with informal, low-credibility formats. The opportunity was to build something that felt genuinely different: structured, editorially intelligent, commercially coherent and scalable from day one. The challenge was building it without a brief, a budget, or a team.

The insight
The people this platform was for didn't need another networking event. They needed a reason to come, something worth attending because of what it stood for, not just who might be in the room. The brand had to earn credibility before the events could.

The strategy
I built the brand outward from a single positioning decision: Pillars would be a platform for the hospitality industry's next generation of thinkers, operators and makers, not a generic industry mixer. That positioning shaped everything: the name, the visual language, the editorial voice and the event formats. Credibility came first, community followed.

What I built
- Full brand identity: naming, logo, colour system, typography, visual language
- Tone of voice framework and messaging hierarchy
- Website built and designed from scratch
- Social channels launched and managed across platforms
- Event programme: six events across London venues including The Sloane Club, 34 Bloomsbury and Amie Wine Studio
- Pillars Newspaper: a 400-copy editorial broadsheet distributed to industry contacts, event guests and press

The outcome
~85% average sell-out rate across six events. The Pillars Newspaper positioned the platform as a thought leadership voice, not just an events series. The brand now has an identity system, a community and an editorial presence, all built from a zero base.

What this proves
This case study demonstrates end-to-end brand creation: from naming and positioning through to identity, digital presence, event production and editorial content. It proves the ability to build a commercially credible brand without a brief, a budget or a team, which is a different kind of proof to most.
